A Familiar Pattern

Keeping busy these past few months doesn't have to mean filling a house with sourdough starter or keeping up with other trendy baking projects. For many, like Senior Associate Director in Creative Services Kelly Milligan, it's also been a time to revisit long-time hobbies. "I wouldn’t say that quarantine has increased how often I knit — I’ve always been a big knitter," said Kelly. "I taught myself while pregnant with my first child and I’ve never stopped."

From socks and dresses to blankets and coats, Kelly has knit quite the arsenal of garments since picking up the craft. "My favorite item is the hat. They're quick and creative and make a perfect gift. The joy for me is in the giving." Before moving to the remote office, Kelly led an open house lunchtime knitting group twice a month, where she taught her colleagues the art of knitting.

Kelly and her work

In addition to her passion for knitting, Kelly is also an avid illustrator (she's one of the talented designers on the creative services team in the Marketing and Communications division). "I started journaling about the pandemic lockdown when I suddenly found my two older children (18 + 21) back home full-time with me," explained Kelly. Her creative work caught the eye of the LA Times, which was working on a story about journaling during the pandemic. Read about Kelly's journaling as featured in their article.

Bentley Celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month

Activists with the rainbow flagDid you know that October is LGBTQ+ History Month? In recognition of the month, each year the Office of Diversity & Inclusion and Bentley P.R.I.D.E. hosts the Rainbow Lunch to bring together Bentley lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning communities and allies to celebrate the accomplishments and strength of the LGBTQ+ community. The theme of this year's remote Rainbow Lunch is A Call to Action and Activism, and will take place on Monday, Oct. 26 at 12:00 p.m. The event will feature a keynote address from Rev. Irene Monroe, a celebrated writer, theologian and LGBTQ+ activist.

In addition to Rev. Monroe's keynote, this year's Rainbow Awards will be announced during the Rainbow Lunch, given each year to individuals who have made specific contributions to the cause of LGBTQ welfare at Bentley and have shown courage by taking a public stand in support of the LGBTQ+ population.

Bentley Faculty Take Home AICPA Award

Join us in congratulating Associate Professor in Accountancy Scott Boss and Lecturer in Accountancy Joy Gray, who were recently named 2020 Effective Learning Strategies Award recipients by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Each year, the AICPA awards educators from across the country who are developing innovative teaching tools across all levels of higher education accountancy curricula. Scott and Joy were awarded the George Krull/Grant Thornton 2019 Teaching Innovation Award for their case studies titled "Cybersecurity isn’t just for Techies: Incorporating Cybersecurity into the Accounting Curriculum." This series of six case studies provided students with an opportunity to learn how to address a number of cybersecurity issues impacting the accounting industry.
