Connecting faculty and staff, one story at a time

A lot has happened in our community throughout the summer. With the new academic year under way, here's a recap of some of those updates and a look at what's to come!

Championing Equity from the Classroom to the Cabinet

Katie LampleyThis summer, Katie Lampley was promoted to chief diversity and inclusion officer, the first to hold that official position in Bentley's history. Most recently, Katie championed diversity and inclusion on campus as the assistant provost of diversity and inclusion, and before, she oversaw the Office of Diversity and Inclusion as its executive director. But did you know that Katie's commitment to creating an equitable community at Bentley goes back to the early '90s when she was an undergraduate student? "I'm excited to continue the legacy of commitment to diversity and inclusion that began at Bentley more than 30 years ago," said Katie of her promotion to chief diversity and inclusion officer. "I was involved as a student in the initial work being done on diversity in the early '90s and I've seen our efforts evolve tremendously over time."

As chief diversity and inclusion officer, Katie will continue to lead the efforts of the Racial Justice Task Force as its co-chair and will lead initiatives as a member of the Cabinet aimed at identifying ways Bentley can create a more equitable, anti-racist community. "Creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive campus requires persistence and constant effort and I look forward to continuing that work," shared Katie. "I believe in our ability as an institution to live our strongly held values in this area and I am privileged to be able to help guide those efforts in this role."

In addition to starting in her new role, Katie was named this year's Founder's Day award winner. Join us in congratulating Katie!

Student Honors Council partners with Captains of Capital

This fall, the Student Honors Council has partnered with Captains of Capital to raise funds and supplies for the Waltham Boys and Girls Clubs and Mattapan Teen Center. Captains of Capital, an organization founded by Bentley students, is dedicated to teaching financial literacy to underprivileged youth throughout the Greater Boston area. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of schools and community-based organizations for classroom technology has sharply increased. Through their fundraising efforts, Captains of Capital seeks to purchase headphones, USB drives and computer accessories for these centers.

In addition to raising money for this equipment, the Student Honors Council has asked any office on campus interested in donating school supplies to email them at GA_HonorsProgram@bentley.edu
