Since opening our doors more than 100 years ago, Bentley has been at the forefront of preparing students to thrive in accounting careers in public and private sectors both locally and abroad. With Bentley’s integrated degree programs, you’ll be exposed to a wide array of courses and disciplines to ensure that you are equipped with the diverse skillsets and ethical standards needed to stand out from peers in the field.

Mission: The Department of Accounting provides an internationally recognized transformative accounting education. We prepare our students as ethical, technically agile, and socially minded citizens who can adapt to the fast-changing business landscape. We produce high-caliber scholarly research that helps improve the classroom experience and advance accounting knowledge.  

Vision: Building upon a century of success, the accounting department will be the preferred accounting program for students and stakeholders and a model for accounting programs around the world. We will educate ethical and adaptable business professionals who embrace data-driven accounting decision-making. Faculty will produce innovative, high-quality scholarly research that informs the global profession.

Bentley Recognized in Annual BYU Rankings

Each year, Brigham Young University (BYU) publishes a database of research-productivity rankings from the accounting departments of universities worldwide. These rankings — considered the gold standard within the discipline — are based on publications in 12 leading accounting journals, with contributions categorized by topic and research method. Bentley faculty and alumni distinguished themselves in BYU’s 2023 results, ranking 3rd globally in education research and 4th for audit, with PhD in Accounting graduates ranked as 17th worldwide. In addition, professor Rani Hoitash ranked 7th for audit research and 14th for accounting research.

Pepe Named NE-10 Faculty Mentor of the Year

Senior Lecturer Len Pepe (above, left) director of Bentley’s Master’s in Accounting program, was chosen as the 2023 recipient of the Northeast-10 Conference’s Dr. Dave Landers Faculty Mentor Award, which recognizes a faculty member from a league institution who has helped student-athletes achieve their academic goals. At the NE-10’s annual awards banquet, Pepe was introduced by former Bentley football player John Destefanis ’22, MBA ’23 (above, right), who observed that, “As a former baseball player at Holy Cross, Professor Pepe understands what it means to be a student-athlete, the values and commitment that it requires within the classroom and within our respective sports. He teaches because he’s passionate about his profession, and he’s helped me navigate my own career aspirations.”

Hoitash Awarded 2023 Mee Family Prize

Rani Hoitash, John E. Rhodes Professor of Accounting, received the 2023 Mee Family Prize. Established in 2012 through an endowed gift from Michael Mee ’66 and his wife, Judy, this award recognizes a full-time faculty member who holds full professor status and whose exceptional research contributions, past and present, have enhanced the university’s scholarly standing. Hoitash has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals, and his findings have been widely reported in in mainstream media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, and cited in official reports from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and other U.S. regulators.
