My Time with Learning Design

Kayla GermainUpon entering Bentley University, I was eager to explore my creativity and immerse myself in new experiences. While perusing internship opportunities, I stumbled upon a role at Bentley’s Learning Design team as a Communications Assistant. As I read the internship description, I realized it closely aligned with my aspirations as an Experience Design and Management major, with minors in Law and Marketing. The Learning Design Center provided a platform for me to showcase my creativity in various ways, from project management to graphic design and communications.

My time at the Learning Design Center not only allowed me to apply my academic knowledge in real-world scenarios but also encouraged me to think outside the box. Collaborating with a diverse team of professionals, I gained valuable insights into effective communication strategies and the importance of visual design in conveying messages.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship was the opportunity to contribute to projects that promoted mental health awareness on campus. Whether through designing informative posters or crafting engaging social media campaigns, I felt a sense of fulfillment in using my skills to make a positive impact in the Bentley community.

The Learning Design Center not only helped me embark on my experience design and management career exploration but also aided me in viewing law in different terms. Specifically, through a law project I had the opportunity to participate in, I compiled frequently asked questions that students interested in law have, along with questions I felt would help students like me gain a clear understanding of what law entails and the different career paths they could pursue within the field. This project not only deepened my understanding of the legal profession but also allowed me to contribute to the educational resources available to Bentley students interested in pursuing a career in law. It reinforced my belief in the importance of accessible information and guidance in helping individuals make informed decisions about their academic and professional paths. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the intersection of law and communication, further enriching my interdisciplinary approach to learning and problem-solving.

Furthermore, working in such a dynamic environment fueled my passion for creativity and problem-solving. I found myself constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities to expand my skill set, whether through attending workshops or taking on additional responsibilities.

Overall, my experience at Bentley's Learning Design Center has been invaluable in shaping my academic and professional journey. It has reinforced my belief in the power of effective communication and design to drive meaningful change, and I am excited to continue exploring these passions as I progress through my studies and beyond.
