MAG is an interdisciplinary research group focused on projects at the intersection of music studies and data analysis. The group is interested in all aspects of a wide range of music from a variety of geographical locations and all types of data analysis. 

Mission

The mission of the Music Analytics Group is to contribute innovative research at the frontier between analytics and music while leveraging modern data analysis techniques to address interesting questions related to music.

Nathan Carter
Nathan Carter

Nathan Carter uses computer science to advance mathematics.  He studied both subjects at the University of Scranton and at Indiana University, earning a Ph.D. in mathematical logic in 2004.  He then joined the faculty of Bentley University and has worked in logic and dabbled in social network analysis.  He writes open source mathematics software, including Group Explorer for group theory visualization, and Lurch, a general validation environment for mathematical reasoning.  He has two textbooks published by the Mathematical Association of America, including Visual Group Theory in 2009 and Introduction to the Mathematics of Computer Graphics in 2015.

Jonathan Ericson is an Assistant Professor in Experience Design. He focuses on applying cognitive science to design. His research uses virtual reality (VR) and related technologies to study human-computer interaction (HCI), visual perception, and spatial cognition. Applied interests include healthcare, data visualization, serious games, and creative interfaces.

Dominique Haughton (PhD MIT 1983) is Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Global Studies and Graduate Coordinator for Business Analytics at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, near Boston, and Affiliated Researcher at the Université Paris 1 (Pantheon-Sorbonne) and Université Toulouse 1, France.  Research interests include applied statistics, business analytics, global analytics, music analytics, data mining, and model selection. Professor Haughton’s work concentrates on how to best leverage modern analytics techniques in order to address questions of business or societal interest. United States co- Editor of Case Studies in Business, Industry and Government Statistics (CSBIGS).  Author of three monographs, a Springer brief, and of over sixty articles which have appeared in journals such as The American Statistician, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Telecommunications Policy, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Studies in Family Planning, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Biosocial Science, Annals of Statistics, Sankhya, Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, Communications in Statistics, Statistica Sinica. Ecole Normale Superieure Graduate. Fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Mingfei Li

Mingfei Li is a faculty member of Mathematical Sciences department. With strong background of computational mathematics and statistics, her research interest is broad in applied areas, including health, business, sports, music, etc. She got her M.S, and Ph.D degree in statistics and applied math from Michigan State University. Currently, she activley leads and participates in multiple research groups with different disciplines and institutiions. She is also a core member of DART (Data Research Team) at Bentley University. As current MSBA program director, she supervises students in both research projects and curriculum.

Wilson Wong

Prior to entering academia, Wilson Wong worked as Chief Technologist, Director of Information Systems, and Director of Technical Operations at various corporations in the information systems and software field. As a computer science professor, he aims to impart his business experience in his software engineering and database courses by incorporating real-life projects through collaborations with organizations such as Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. His research areas of interest include user resistance, system trust, social network analysis, music analytics, and information systems / software engineering capstone innovations.
