Objective
The Curated Visits initiative aims to accelerate your entrepreneurial journey by giving you access to events in the Greater Boston startup ecosystem. Your travel expenses from your location to the event venue and back are supported and funded by the E-Hub subject to certain limits.
What is a Curated Visit?
A curated visit is a visit to an event related to entrepreneurship (at another university or corporate location in the Greater Boston area). Examples include a start-up founder networking event at a university or a pitch presentation event or sessions of presentations and panels related to entrepreneurship as part of a conference or other local event. These possibilities are identified and vetted by the E-Hub in collaboration with alumni, faculty, student clubs and other stakeholders. A calendar of upcoming curated visits (typically, over the next couple of months) will be available on these pages.
How are Curated Visits organized?
Once the curated events are published on this page, individual students may sign up and coordinate among themselves. We anticipate that the E-Hub will support about two events each month. For each event, the E-Hub will support round-trip transportation (from the Bentley campus and back). More details of these procedures are outlined on this page.
Policies, Guidelines and Coordination
Prepare to attend the event
- Watch for the upcoming events in the calendar below.
- If you would like to attend an event, register for it on their official site.
- Express your willingness to share a ride from Bentley and back by using the Sign-Up link next to the event.
- The E-Hub will support up to 5 rides from Bentley and back, probably with up to three students in each ride.
- Guideline: Max $50 for each ride based on receipts, Total max $100 for each round trip based on receipts.
- One student will act as the student captain for each round-trip ride. Because there will be up to 5 rides, each curated event may have up to five captains.
- After you sign up, organize directly with the group using any method that works best for you (SMS/WhatsApp or other)
- Read what you can about the event/presenters and prepare to attend the event
Participate in the event
- For most events, the E-Hub recommends business casual attire
- Attend, listen, ask questions, make new friends, and acquire new ideas
- Write down a few key impressions could help you generate two lines of reflection and report
- Take a picture or two (this may be done as group with your fellow Falcons who are attending)
- Follow Bentley’s student conduct guidelines and maintain professional behavior during the event
Reflect and report
- Immediately, share a brief two-line reflection with the designated student captain. Here is an example:
- Event: Start-up Boston Mixer
Name: Jane Bosworth
Reflection: The event showcased several speakers who discussed different stages of the entrepreneurship journey.
I listened to two sessions where I also had a chance meeting with a Bentley alum.
The event was quite useful because it allowed me to listen to several founders who are building their own venvures
- Event: Start-up Boston Mixer
- Immediately, share a picture (showing your attendance at the event) with the designated student captain
- Help your student captain by naming the file and/or providing a description
- If you are the student captain, collect this picture + the two-line reflection from each member of your team
- The best time for this will be during the ride back from the event or as you are waiting for the ride to arrive
- As a student captain, prepare your own brief reflection and pick your own picture that you will upload
- Compile all pictures and all reflections, and submit these with your receipts as reimbursement request. Here is an example:
- Event: Start-up Boston Founders Networking Evening
Reflection from Jane Bosworth: The event showcased several speakers who discussed different stages of the entrepreneurship journey. I listened to two sessions and had a chance meeting with a Bentley alum. I enjoyed the event. It allowed me to listen to several founders who are building their ventures.
Reflection from Diego Massino: It was great. We got there about 530 and the event had good food and we managed to get into a couple of sessions. It was fun to listen to the stories from the speakers.
Reflection from Mac Cassidy (Captain): This was an event I really wanted to attend. There were some 300 attendees with many sessions. I listened to three sessions, each with different stories about how they built their company. I managed to talk to lots of people and picked up several lessons.
