Bob Galliers, University Distinguished Professor at Bentley, received the prestigious LEO Award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in Information Systems from the Association for Information Systems (AIS) at the 2012 International Conference on Information Systems in Orlando, Florida, December 17. Bentley is one of only two institutions in the world with more than one winner; M. Lynne Markus, John W. Poduska, Sr. Professor of Information and Process Management, won the award in 2008.

AIS is the premier global organization for academics specializing in Information Systems (IS). The award recognizes truly outstanding individuals who have made both a local and global impact on the field of IS, and who have served as role models to colleagues and students.

Galliers has contributed extensively to the IS field for more than 30 years, in various leadership positions and on three continents: Australia, the UK and the U.S. He is Bentley¹s inaugural University Distinguished Professor, having served as Provost for seven years (2002-2009), during which time he headed up Bentley¹s progress to university status and EQUIS and EDAMBA accreditations. He was honored as an AIS Fellow in 2003, later joined by Bentley colleagues, M. Lynne Markus and Jane Fedorowicz, Rae D. Anderson Professor of Accounting and Information Systems. Fedorowicz is the in-coming AIS President, a role filled by Galliers in 1999, when he was Research Director in the Department of IS at the London School of Economics.

Galliers’ international profile includes keynote speeches at more than 40 international conferences including the Australasian, European, Mediterranean and Scandinavian conferences on Information Systems. His highly published and cited work focuses primarily on organizational innovation/transformation; the process of IS strategizing; knowing in organizations, and the intra- and extra-organizational impacts of information technology. He is founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
