Bentley’s is among 47 leading universities and management schools worldwide recognized for work to ensure a sustainable future, noted in the UN Global Compact’s Inspirational Guide for the Implementation of PRME: Placing Sustainability at the Heart of Management Education.

“I am very pleased that Bentley was chosen to be highlighted twice in the Guide, and it places us in very good company,” says Tony Buono, coordinator of the Bentley Alliance for Ethics & Social Responsibility. “It reflects the work of our faculty and staff in helping to prepare our students to be responsible leaders working toward a sustainable and inclusive global economy.”

The guide highlights Bentley’s initial steps to introduce PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) on campus, particularly a concerted effort to: build on the research, teaching and institutional service interests of a core group of faculty members; engage the campus community in a series of conversations about the significance of ethics and responsible management education; draw on the capabilities and work of faculty leaders in this area; and embed those practices into programs and initiatives across campus.

It also features the Bentley Alliance for Ethics & Social Responsibility and its role on campus to encourage and promote an institution-wide commitment to ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, and civic engagement.

The Guide was compiled for the Rio+20 Earth Summit, recently held in Rio de Janeiro. It features 63 case stories from 47 institutions, representing 25 countries across Asia, Oceania, Latin America, USA and Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Their experiences are classified into six sections, which address the Six Principles of PRME (Purpose, Values, Method, Research, Partnership, and Dialogue), illustrating advice on getting started, reporting, and institutionalizing the principles. 

Tony Buono and Pat Flynn, Trustee Professor of Economics and Management, represented Bentley during the Rio meeting, participating in both the 3^rd Global Forum of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and the Corporate Sustainability Summit.
