The Bentley Police Department joined police departments from across the Commonwealth for the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics cruiser convoy. 

This year, Bentley University Police Sergeant Donald Perault rode the department motorcycle in the convoy, which converged at the 2012 Special Olympics Massachusetts’ Summer Games at Harvard University on June 16.  

“Once we arrive at the gate we parade in around the field with just our emergency lights on and the applause and looks on the Olympians is one that stays with you for a long time,” Sgt. Perault says. “We parked our units and then are broken up into three groups where we will place the medals around the Olympians necks. It was an honor for me to place medals on four different Olympians.”

The cruiser convoy is the largest and most anticipated day event on the Torch Run calendar where hundreds of law enforcement officials arrive at the annual Special Olympics Summer Games. Bentley has participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics for about four years.

“Events like these show the colors of the university,” Perault says. “At least three alumni came up to me and thanked me for representing Bentley.”
