Bentley was recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education as a 2024 Top Performer in innovative and impactful sustainability initiatives. Featured in the 2024 Sustainable Campus Index — which highlights the most sustainable colleges and universities in 17 areas measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) — Bentley was noted for three categories: masters institutions overall, energy impact area and STARS of Data Accuracy

Bentley’s recognition in the energy impact area underscores efforts by the Office of Sustainability with support from Facilities Management — including conservation measures and the switch to renewable energy, which help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support local economic development. This is a continuation of a longstanding commitment by Facilities Management to energy efficiency.

Earlier this year the university announced it would purchase electricity generated by the Kibby Wind Farm in Maine — a move anticipated to power 100% of the university’s campus operations until the end of 2027. The four-year agreement aligns with the university’s Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, which is Bentley’s roadmap for improving campus sustainability — including steps to get Bentley to carbon neutrality by 2030.

The STARS of Data Accuracy category highlights Bentley’s commitment to continuous improvement and transparency in sustainability reporting.
