Bentley placed first in the regional 2010 College Fed Challenge, an annual monetary policy debate competition for undergraduate college students, held on November 15 and sponsored by the Federal Reserve System and select regional Federal Reserve districts. Bentley was among 19 teams --including Harvard College, Yale University, Tufts University, Dartmouth College and Boston College - that competed for the Boston Federal Reserve District title.
Bentley will now advance to the national Fed Challenge to be held at the offices of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, November 30. During the finals the Bentley team will compete against Rutgers University, Northwestern University, Lafayette College, and one more school, yet to be determined. (note: The TBD team will be known tomorrow. The competition is at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, so their web site ought to have that info then).
Under the advisement of Bentley economics professors David Gulley and Aaron Jackson, team members gave a 20-minute presentation on the state of the economy, monetary policy and policy recommendations, followed by a 10-minute question and answer period with a panel of judges from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
