Bentley University announces the appointment of Michael Quinn as associate PhD director. Quinn, who most recently served as associate professor of economics and associate director of the honors program at Bentley, will promote and develop the university’s doctoral program.

“I know the entire Bentley community joins me in wishing Mike all the best with his new role,” says Bentley Provost Michael Page. “I cannot think of anyone better for the role.”

As associate director, Quinn will focus on attracting high quality applicants, and updating and creating policies, procedures and the cultural environment. He will also serve as a role model for students by mentoring and supporting their academic development.

“I look forward to being a part of the continued success and growth of Bentley’s doctoral programs and to working with such a talented group of students and faculty,” says Quinn, who served as a committee member for the PhD Council and received the Cronin Award for Excellence in Advising from Bentley in 2010.

Quinn is an economic scholar whose research focuses primarily on immigration and related issues. He has also published on topics such as U.S. media exports, agricultural investment in Mexico, the U.S. Medicaid program, and educational backgrounds of corporate CEOs. He has also explored the impact of government programs on high and low skilled immigration in the European Union, coyote smugglers and Mexican immigrants' migration duration in the U.S., and income convergence in Europe. Quinn is published in journals that include Contemporary Economic Policy, Demography, Economics of Education Review, International Trade Journal, Journal of Developing Areas and the Review of Development Economics. He has presented at domestic and international conferences for organizations such as the American Economic Association, Southern Economic Association, Western Economic Association, Eastern Economic Association, European Society of Population Economics, and the International Atlantic Economic Society. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
