In February, Professor and Chair of Mathematical Sciences Richard Cleary was appointed to a two-year term as chair of the Joint Data Committee of five mathematical organizations: Mathematical Association of America; American Mathematical Society; American Statistical Association; the Institute of Mathematical Statistics; and Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The committee helps monitor the profession in many aspects, among them employment trends for new PhDs; enrollments in graduate and undergraduate programs; diversity issues; and faculty salaries.
As committee chair, Cleary will co-write several articles with staff members from sponsoring societies, which will appear in top journals such as Notices of the American Mathematical Society.
