Bentley University students are offering free tax return preparation for residents of Waltham, Mass., and surrounding communities through April 10, with the exception of Spring Break, March 8 to 16. This is the 15th consecutive year Bentley has offered this service through the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Residents and community organizations seeking more information about this valuable program, please call 781.891.2714 or email  ga_VITA@bentley.edu.

Both Bentley undergraduate accounting degree and masters in accounting degree students offer their expertise to those in need, particularly the elderly, low and limited income taxpayers, and individuals with disabilities. Tax returns are done on a first come, first served basis. Please note services do not include preparing tax returns with rental income/expenses; Schedule C — income from a sole proprietorship; or a return with more than five security transactions. Last year, more than 70 student volunteers were on hand to prepare in excess of 1000 (federal and state) income tax returns.

The VITA Program is offered through Bentley's Service-Learning Center (BSLC), which promotes academic learning and development through community service. BSLC believes that students' community involvement outside of the classroom contributes significantly to what they learn in the classroom. All participating students are required to pass the IRS VITA certification exam before being accepted into the VITA program.
