Dr. Jane Fedorowicz, the Chester B. Slade professor of Accounting and Information Systems, received the 2016-2017 Mee Family Prize for a lifetime of research excellence. Established by Bentley alumnus Michael Mee (’66) and his wife, Judy, to encourage and recognize excellence in research, the $25,000 prize is presented annually to a senior member of the faculty to honor outstanding, internationally acclaimed scholarship and exemplary contributions to Bentley’s faculty, students, and alumni. Dr. Fedorowicz is internationally recognized for her transdiciplinary research, especially for her e-government work at the intersection of information systems, organization science, communications studies, and political science.
Dr. Fedorowicz earned master of science and PhD degrees in Systems Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. She was principal investigator of a National Science Foundation project team studying design issues for police and government agency collaboration using public safety networks. She also served as principal investigator for the Bentley Invision Project, an international research team housed at Bentley examining inter-organizational information sharing and the coordination infrastructures supporting these relationships in supply chain, government, and health care.
As Chip Wiggins, co-provost/dean of business and the McCallum Graduate School of Business, acknowledged in the award citation, Professor Fedorowicz “has placed a priority on communicating her research findings to practice. Due to the important current questions that her work addresses, and the nature of the field data that she often uses, her research naturally resonates with professionals and the public. An example of this resonance is the invitation to present to the Department of Homeland Security on the results of her public safety networks project.”
Celebrating a Lifetime of Outstanding Research
Dr. Fedorowicz has published more than130 academic papers – including 54 top journal articles, 62 conference proceedings papers, and 14 book chapters, as well as a textbook, several monographs, and many cases and articles in professional venues.
She has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to the academic community by the Association for Information Systems (AIS) – a professional association with more than 4,000 members, both academics and practitioners, from almost 100 countries. She was named Fellow of the Association in 2006, an honor reserved for a very small number of scholars who make outstanding contributions to the information systems discipline. She has also served the association as president elect, president, and past president. She has served as a special adviser to the AIS president, as a facilitator/leader of the AIS College of Senior Scholars, and as a member of several committees for AIS and the American Accounting Association. Dr. Fedorowicz also has been a member of the leadership team of the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT) since 2014.
The Mee family established the prize with an endowed gift in 2012. Past recipients include Dr. M. Lynne Markus, Dr. W. Michael Hoffman, Dr. Jean C. Bedard, and Dr. Gesa Kirsch.
