As part of the Tufts Health Plan Speaker Series, the Center for Women and Business at Bentley University presented Judge Nancy Gertner, retired U.S. district court judge for Massachusetts. The program was held on October 26.
Gertner’s presentation, “Unconventional Leadership: Achieving Justice During Times of Change,” explored her personal path to leadership and the lessons that it offers to all who would succeed in a world of increasing complexity and conflict. Her address was followed by a question-and-answer period. Gertner’s book, In Defense of Women: Memoirs of an Unrepentant Advocate, was available for purchase.
About Judge Nancy Gertner: Judge Nancy Gertner is a renowned jurist, lawyer, teacher and author whose accomplishments have been recognized by numerous organizations and academic institutions. Stepping down in September from the position she has held since 1994 as U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Massachusetts, Judge Gertner will join the Harvard Law School faculty as Professor of Practice.
Nominated to the bench by President Clinton, Judge Gertner brought to the Court a formidable intelligence, a commitment to listening to all parties and giving each a fair hearing, and an insistence on clarity – in her oral decisions as well as her written opinions – that leaves no question about either her reasoning or the result.
