W. Michael Hoffman, executive director of the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley University and Hieken Professorship in Business and Professional Ethics, was presented with the Transylvania University Distinguished Achievement Award on April 25, 2015.
Hoffman, a 1965 Transylvania graduate, is a highly sought-after expert on business ethics and has consulted for numerous corporations, universities, and government agencies, including CBS, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Tyson Foods, and many more. He is frequently interviewed and has appeared in publications such as the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.
In 1976, Hoffman founded the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., where he continues to serve as executive director. He served as chairman of Bentley’s philosophy department for 17 years. In 2013, Hoffman was awarded the Mee Family Prize, a Bentley lifetime achievement award for distinguished scholarly research. He also co-founded the Ethics & Compliance Association and the Society for Business Ethics, and he has written or edited 15 books. Hoffman was named Humanist of the Year by the Ethics Society of Boston in 2007 and has received lifetime achievement awards from several professional societies.
