It’s a milestone reached by only six other college basketball coaches in history -- Bentley University’s Barbara Stevens won her 1,000th game as the women’s basketball team beat Adelphi University.

Stevens, who has coached at Bentley for 32 years and led the team to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2014, becomes just the fifth coach in women’s basketball and seventh coach overall  to reach this amazing career accomplishment.

“Achieving this milestone is just wonderful but mostly I feel so fortunate to be part of Bentley and doing something that I love so much,” said Stevens. “My focus is always on the team and moving forward -- we are on to the next game.”

With about 17 seconds left on the clock during the game, fans at Bentley’s Dana Center started a  "Barbara Stevens" chant. Bentley President Gloria Larson was in the stands for the game as the seconds wound down to Stevens’ historic win.

“What makes Coach Stevens so wonderful is that even with all these accolades, she is an even better person than basketball coach,” said President Larson. “128 Bentley women have had the honor to don the uniform for Coach Stevens and she has been a mentor and a friend to each of them. I know the entire Bentley community joins me in celebrating Coach Stevens’ historic accomplishment.”
