An article about the types of mindfulness in today’s age of digital distraction co-written by Pierre Berthon, the Clifford F. Youse Chair of Marketing and Strategy in Bentley’s McCallum School of Business, was published in the journal Business Horizons.
Research led by Adjunct Lecturer Ektarina Cleary under the university’s Center for Integration of Science and Industry on the role of National Institutes of Health funding in the development of new drugs was cited in a letter signed by 16 members of Congress to the CEO of AbbVie, a pharmaceutical company.
Jane Fedorowicz, the Chester B. Slade Professor of Accountancy and Information Systems, won the 2018 Association of Information Systems LEO award, which recognizes outstanding scholars or practitioners who have made a global impact on the field of information systems. The LEO award is named for the world's first business application of computing, the Lyons Electronic Office.
Professor of English Gesa Kirsch has accepted a position as the next Thomas R. Watson Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Louisville for Fall 2019. Kirsch will be teaching in their doctoral program in her area of expertise, rhetoric and writing studies. She will also be working with PhD students and giving a public lecture.
Kirsch gave a reading and discussion of her book, “More Than Gold in California,” a memoir of Dr. Mary Bennett Ritter, an early California physician and women’s rights activist, at the Boston Athenaeum.
A new book by a former United Nations diplomat and special adviser to the prime minister of Nepal credits Senior Lecturer Donald McNemar of the Global Studies Department with planting the seed for a 30-year UN career. Author Kul Chandra Gautam writes in his memoir, “Global Citizen from Gulmi: My Journey from the Hills of Nepal to the Halls of the United Nations,” that McNemar inspired his career path while teaching at Dartmouth College in the late 1960s.
A Bentley team progressed to the final round of the local competition of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, along with teams from Babson, Northeastern and Tufts. The Challenge is a global competition that takes place in 87 countries and involves 1,100 universities and 5,500 students. The competition tests the equity research and valuation, investment report writing, and presentation skills of participants. The Bentley team members are Ryan Ricci ‘19 (captain), Gita Ghantasala ‘19, Christopher Fallaque ’19 and John Lenz ‘19.
