Jorge Moran

Jorge Moran, Santander U.S. country head and president and CEO of Sovereign Bank, will deliver the keynote address at the Bentley University Graduate School of Business 38th annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. on the south campus. Moran will receive an honorary doctor of commercial science degree at the ceremony.

Moran has been Santander’s US country head since February 2011 and president and chief executive officer of Sovereign Bank since December 2010. He joined Santander Group in 2002 as head of Asset Management. He has also served as head of Santander's Global Asset Management and Insurance Division, as senior executive vice president and head of the Global Insurance Division at Banco Santander, S.A., and as chief operating officer of Santander UK plc.

Before joining Santander, Moran was chief executive officer of Morgan Stanley for Spain and Portugal, and a partner of AB Asesores, a brokerage and asset management company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business from ICADE.

Bentley University president Gloria Cordes Larson stated, “This day is such an important one in the lives of our students and their families. We are thrilled that Jorge Moran will have the opportunity to share it with them. We know that he will bring a special message to our graduates and their guests that reflects his remarkable life experience, his successful business endeavors, and his distinctive perspective on global leadership.”

The Santander Universities Global Division has established a study abroad scholarship program that involves a network of 26 U.S. colleges and universities, including Bentley. Sovereign Bank provides financial support through Santander Universities, a major initiative created by Banco Santander to support higher education and advance the bank’s goal of expanding knowledge and experience throughout the world.

Bentley and Santander established their partnership in 2011. The Santander fund provides annual scholarships for Bentley students to participate in academic and service-oriented study abroad opportunities. “We believe that the best investment for the future is in higher education. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders and will be fundamental in shaping the world we live in,” said Moran. “We are very pleased to support Bentley University in creating more opportunities for students to experience the global community and expand their knowledge.”

Commencement 2013 takes place on the south campus at Bentley University. The graduate ceremony will be held under the tent on the football field. Indoor viewing on a large monitor is available in the Dana Athletic Center. The event is held rain or shine. Buses will run from the parking lots on the main campus to the south campus.
