A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it,” according to acclaimed American shutterbug Irving Penn.

The images shared in Bentley’s annual International Education Photo Contest prove Penn’s point, giving viewers a glimpse of the captivating cultures, spellbinding scenery and memorable moments students enjoyed during their study abroad experiences. Ranging from intensive one-week trips to semester- or year-long immersions, the programs offered by the Cronin Office of International Education are academically rigorous, culturally enriching and increasingly popular: 51 percent of all Bentley students study abroad.

For this year’s photo contest, members of the Bentley community were invited to submit photos in three categories: Bentley Abroad, highlighting Bentley pride overseas; Landscapes, showcasing the beauty of students’ home-away-from-home; and The World as your Classroom, emphasizing insights gained from day-to-day living in different environments. Voters could choose their favorite photos on the university's International Education Facebook page. This year’s contest also included several new categories: Facebook Fan Favorite, determined by popular vote; Alumni Choice, chosen by previous study abroad participants; and Bentley Votes, a “Best in Show” designation.

To view this year’s winners and category finalists, as well as a special bonus photo — “We had one photo that didn’t really fit into any of the categories but the panel loved so much they decided to create an Honorable Mention category,” Study Abroad Coordinator Casey Talay explains — click here or on the photo below to see the photo gallery.
