P. Thompson Davis, Professor of Geology and Climatology in the Natural and Applied Sciences Department, was named as a fellow of the Geological Society of America (GSA). He will be recognized at the GSA Annual Meeting on October 31, 2010, in Denver. According to GSA, members are elected to fellowship in recognition of distinguished contributions to the geosciences, an honor that is bestowed upon the best in the profession. Fellowship nominations may only be made by a fellow of the society.
Davis's research interests include glacial geology and climate change in arctic and alpine areas. He has received numerous research grants from the National Science Foundation and has published extensively about his work on glacial and climate history of mountainous areas in New England, western North America, and Baffin Island.
