REACH Beyond Domestic Violence: A new campus resource at Bentley
Dear Bentley Community,
In a recent conversation with the members of Bentley’s Student Government Association, I offered a reflection on what I have learned about the university’s capacity to respond to incidents of sexual or gender-based harassment and violence. Like many in the community, I falsely believed that the Title IX office was the only resource available to survivors and that formal reporting was the only option. I was wrong. What I have come to understand is the depth of resources that can be accessed, including 24/7 counseling and advocacy services, on-campus confidential resources, and anonymous reporting options. I invite the community to explore these resources on the refreshed Interpersonal Violence Resources webpage and share them with friends and colleagues.
Today I am writing to make you aware of a new resource. Jessica Teperow, the Director of Prevention Programs at REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, will be offering office hours to the Bentley community beginning Friday, Nov. 19. REACH Beyond Domestic Violence is a long-time partner and knows the Bentley community well. In the past year, Jessica has helped to facilitate listening sessions with students, presented to the Board of Trustees, and led trauma-informed training for faculty and staff. Jessica will be offering consultation and support virtually and in-person by appointment to employees and students.
Created to supplement existing resources, these appointments offer a space for community members to seek consultation, gain emotional support, learn how to support a friend or colleague, and explore additional resources. To schedule an appointment, please e-mail her at Jessica@reachma.org.
I am encouraged by the consistent call from our community for change. The impact of our collective voices is powerful and is required to truly create change. The Bentley Equity Experience survey and engagement experiences happening this semester provide another way for you to let your voice be heard and call for change. I encourage you to share your perspective on the climate and advocate for change in your area of influence. Together we are working to hold one another responsible for living our values and creating a Bentley where everyone feels a sense of safety and belonging.
Sincerely,
Katie
