Bentley University announces that Santander Bank, N.A. has launched a new three-year agreement with Bentley that will continue the Santander Universities Study Abroad Scholarship Fund. President and CEO of Santander US, Roman Blanco, and Bentley President Gloria Larson announced the agreement during a signing ceremony on campus on March 20, 2014.
For the second three year term, the fund will provide scholarships for Bentley students to participate in academic and service-oriented study abroad programs. Santander will provide financial support through its Santander Universities Global Division, a major initiative created by Banco Santander to support higher education and advance the Bank’s goal of expanding knowledge and experience throughout the world.
“The continued support of Santander means Bentley students who might have been unable to participate in international study due to economic factors, will continue to have the opportunity to study abroad and experience deep engagement with their host culture,” says President Larson. “Over the past three academic years, the Santander Study Abroad Scholarship program has supported international experiences for 105 Bentley students. Their destinations are as diverse as their interests: Ghana, China, South Africa, Australia, Latin America and throughout Europe. These students return to campus with life-changing experiences.”
“Our relationship with Bentley is an important part of our mission to partner with universities, and we look forward to the continued success of the Santander Study Abroad Scholarship Program,” said Roman Blanco, president and CEO of Santander US. “The Bentley students who have completed projects abroad through the program exemplify our commitment to developing the global leaders of tomorrow. Through continued partnerships with important universities like Bentley, Santander will continue to affirm its commitment to higher education around the world.”
With this agreement Bentley joins a network of 33 U.S. colleges and universities that participate in the Santander Universities Global Division. Santander Universities provides these academic institutions with support for the development of scholarships, mobility grants, research, university-company relations, innovative technologies, promotion of the Spanish language and global projects like Universia, the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library and RedEmprendia In the United States, Santander supports 33 higher education institutions and in 2013 gave over $10 million to fund scholarships, global exchange opportunities, research projects and entrepreneurship studies.
