Update 2: Lindsay Hall incident
9:30 p.m. Update
Dear Bentley community,
Network connectivity remains stable and internet access has continued uninterrupted since coming back online earlier this evening. The university phones are continuing to experience intermittent outages as they come back online. The university will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 12.
University IT will continue to monitor the network overnight for any setbacks, but we consider this incident to be mostly resolved. We will send a final update when full service is restored to the university phone system.
To confirm a few details from our email earlier tonight:
For Emergencies: Please continue to call 911 from your mobile device to report any emergency or if you need immediate help. Landlines and other contact methods may continue to experience intermittent outages overnight.
Mailroom: The mailroom will reopen tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
Classes: Classes for tomorrow will follow the normal schedule. If faculty experience any classroom technology issues on Tuesday morning, please follow normal procedures for assistance from IT.
Staff on Campus: In-person work for staff tomorrow will follow the normal schedule. Please contact your manager if you have questions. The Faculty and Staff Town Hall scheduled for 2:00 p.m. will continue as planned.
Thank you again for your patience this afternoon as we worked through this incident.

Email update to the community at 6:00 p.m.
Dear Bentley community,
As you know from the BentleyAlert updates, there was a fire in a server room in Lindsay Hall this afternoon. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries or structural damage to the building. However, as those on campus have experienced, some of the university’s phones remain down. Internet access through eduroam began to restore at approximately 5:00 p.m., and we will continue to monitor connectivity through the evening and overnight.
The Executive Policy Group, Emergency Management Group, University Police and members of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and IT have been working together through the afternoon to manage the outage, provide updates and ensure the campus remains safe and secure.
While work to restore all aspects of the network continues, we wanted to provide a few important updates with our community. We plan to share another update with the community by email this evening.
For Emergencies: Please call 911 from your mobile device to report any emergency or if you need immediate help. Landlines and other contact methods continue to experience intermittent outages.
Food: Food service in the 921 and other campus locations is not affected by this outage. Meal trades are not working at this time as the system comes back online.
Shuttle: There is no impact on the shuttle. Routes are running as planned.
Mailroom: The mailroom closed early for the day due to the internet outage. They continue to accept packages. The reopening plan for tomorrow morning will be shared later this evening.
Classes: Classes this evening are continuing at the discretion of the individual faculty teaching the class. Faculty are communicating directly with students about their class plan.
We do not believe there will be any impact on classes for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12. We will send an update about tomorrow’s classes later this evening.
Staff on Campus Tomorrow: We do not believe there will be any impact on in-person work for staff tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12. We will send an update on expectations later this evening. Please contact your manager if you have questions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
