What is Degree Works?
Degree Works is a web based tool to help students and advisors monitor students’ progress toward the completion of their degree requirements. The degree audit helps to track degree progress, prepare for course selection and plan for graduation.
What is a degree audit?
A degree audit is a review of past and current coursework that provides you with information concerning completed and outstanding requirements towards your degree program. Your degree audit is an unofficial document that can be used as a tool to plan and track your progress toward earning your degree. The audit can be used as part of advising sessions with academic advisors to determine course selections and confirm graduation requirements. Students are responsible for reviewing their degree audit on a regular basis and reporting any discrepancies to the Registrar’s Office at GA_Grad_Registrars_Office@Bentley.edu
How do I access Degree Works?
You may access Degree Works from the MyBentley homepage by clicking the Degree Works icon. You will be prompted for your Bentley email and password. Please note, if you are already logged into a Bentley app you will go directly to the Degree Works homepage.
How do I log out?
Click “Log Out” in the upper right hand corner of the audit.
Is my information confidential?
Your degree audit is accessed from https://DegreeWorks.bentley.edu However, your academic advisor along with Office of the Registrar staff have access to your degree audit for business purposes. This is to assist you with reviewing your degree audit for advising sessions and graduation processing.
How is my degree audit different from a transcript?
Your degree audit is an unofficial document and can be viewed as a tool to provide you with academic information related to your degree progress and help you plan your academic schedule. Your degree audit is not your official academic record or transcript. An official transcript can be obtained from the Bentley Registrar’s office: http://www.bentley.edu/offices/registrar/forms .
How current is my degree audit information?
The information/data is refreshed each night. Any changes made today (for example, grade changes or classes withdrawn) will be seen on your audit by the following day. You can also update your degree audit yourself by clicking the “Process New” button near the top.
When should I look at my degree audit?
Your degree audit is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Review your degree audit information:
- Before you meet with your academic advisor
- Before registration to plan your program for the term
- After you register to ensure that the courses you selected applied to your requirements like you thought they would
- After your grades for each term are posted
- Before you file for graduation, to review your academic record
- Any time you make a change, such as: add, drop or withdraw from a course, change your MBA concentration, an approved substitution or waiver is processed
How is the degree audit organized?
The top of your degree audit provides you with general information such as your Overall GPA at the graduate level and your current degree program/MBA concentration.
Below that you will find a section listing your Degree GPA, credits required to complete your program, the number of credits applied thus far and other specific requirements for the degree. If you need further explanation of the difference between an Overall GPA and a Degree GPA please refer to the Graduate Catalog, section titled “Grade Point Average”.
The next section lists the required courses and elective courses that must be completed in order to satisfy the requirements for your degree program.
Sections beneath the Degree Requirements may include:
- In Progress - courses that you have enrolled in, but have not been graded yet
- Fall Through – Foundation course waivers (WAV) as well as courses that will not satisfy any requirements towards your program (For example: courses taken in error, “extra” courses that you took for your own knowledge, or courses that cannot be used towards this degree as they were used previously towards a different degree).
- Insufficient Courses - failed courses (F), withdrawn courses (W) and courses with an Incomplete Grade (IG)
- Not Counted - courses for which you were instructed to take a substitute course (SUB)
Does the degree audit show how many courses I have remaining to complete the degree requirements?
A check mark will appear next to the requirement once it has been completed. An empty box will appear next to requirements that are not complete. See the legend at the bottom of the audit for other symbols that may appear next to courses.
Can I view a list of all of the classes I have completed?
Yes. On the Degree Audits tab, click on the “Courses Taken by Term” link for a list of completed courses.
How does Degree Works decide where to put my classes in the degree audit?
The degree audit places each course using a “best fit” scenario. Sometimes multiple possibilities exist and Degree Works may not choose the same configuration that you may have chosen. As you take additional courses towards your program, you may find that the courses will move to satisfy a different requirement. If you have any concerns with regards to placement of courses on your audit please contact the Registrar’s Office at GA_Grad_Registrars_Office@Bentley.edu
Degree Works placed one of my courses in two different places. Is that okay?
At the graduate level a course cannot be used twice within the same degree program. If you encounter this situation please contact the Registrar’s Office immediately at GA_Grad_Registrars_Office@Bentley.edu
Is everything on Look Ahead function in Degree Works accurate?
No. The Look Ahead Function is designed to give you an idea of how future courses might apply to your current degree program. But it is not always accurate. For example, it may place a Look Ahead course into a slot that is already satisfied, and push the already completed course down into the Fallthrough (unused) Area. Thus, this tool is best used in conjunction with your advisor.

Are my grades visible on my degree audit?
Yes. Once grades have been processed at the end of each term, they are viewable on your degree audit. Please note that your Overall GPA and Degree GPA displayed on the audit may not be accurate at certain times during the semester, such as the period when grades are actively being submitted by instructors and GPA’s have not yet been recalculated.
If I drop or withdraw from a class, will that be reflected in my audit?
No, you will not see courses that you withdraw from in your audit. You can see them in your Academic History in Workday.
What does the @ symbol mean in the list of applicable courses for a certain requirement?
The @ symbol is a wildcard.
“CS 6@” means that any CS course at the 600 level will satisfy this requirement.
“A course in @ 6@ or 7@ or 8@” means that a course in ANY subject matter at the 600 or 700 or 800 level will satisfy this requirement.
When I log into DegreeWorks I get a message that states “Audit Unavailable”. What does that mean?
This means that your audit is not available for you to view in DegreeWorks. You have a paper Degree Requirements Summary (DRS) on file at the Registrar’s Office. This document is updated each semester and sent to students annually. However, a copy is available at any time by contacting the Registrar’s office at GA_Grad_Registrars_Office@Bentley.edu. The following groups of students have a paper DRS rather than a Degree Works audit:
- All certificates (coming soon to DegreeWorks)
- All students admitted prior to Fall 2015 (coming soon to DegreeWorks)
- All students currently pursuing two graduate-level degrees simultaneously.
Exceptions: Students pursuing an MBA & MSIT degree via the MS+MBA program will have an audit in DegreeWorks, as these courses are combined into a single audit. In addition, students pursuing a BMBA and an MS will have two separate audits in DegreeWorks.
I already received a graduate degree from Bentley and am currently pursuing a second degree. Will I have an audit in DegreeWorks?
Yes. However, you will note that many of the courses used towards your first degree have been excluded from use in your second degree. These courses will be displayed in the Fallthrough Area of your audit.
Can I print a degree audit?
Yes, choose the Degree Audit option in the Format Field drop down menu and select the Save as PDF button, then open and print the PDF version of the audit.
I think my audit is incorrect. What should I do?
Please contact the Registrar’s Office at GA_Grad_Registrars_Office@Bentley.edu.
Who should I contact if I have questions?
