2024 Campus Sexual Assault Climate Survey Report
In 2021, the Massachusetts state legislature enacted the 2021 Campus Sexual Assault Law (CSAL), the purpose of which was to advance campus safety and violence prevention initiatives at public and private institutions of higher education (IHEs) in Massachusetts. Among other things, the CSAL directs that all Massachusetts IHEs conduct a campus sexual misconduct survey of students no less than every four years and post the results on their website within 120 days of completion and analysis.
Bentley University distributed its inaugural anonymous survey to all undergraduate and graduate students in April 2024, using a survey model developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Analysis of the data was completed in late November 2024. The response rate (7.5%) was “too low to be confident that the results significantly scale to the entire student population. An ideal response rate for a census survey would be 75-80%.”[1]
The results of Bentley’s Campus Sexual Assault Climate Survey are now available on this page. While not statistically representative of the Bentley campus due to the low response rate, the data still provides important information about our students’ experiences with sexual misconduct at Bentley. We encourage you to delve into the survey responses to learn more about our students’ experiences.
Consistent with Bentley’s values of caring and respect, we acknowledge the experiences of interpersonal violence our students have reported in this survey. While we envision a future free of sexual violence of any kind, we recognize that as a society and a campus, we have much work to do. By calling attention to it, we hope to encourage all Bentley community members to be partners in this important work. In the coming months, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Institutional Equity (OIE) will be meeting with community partners to share the data and identify ways to ensure that our students are aware of the rights, reporting options, and available support.
If you have experienced gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, or other sexual misconduct, please visit the OIE website for reporting options and support. Emergency assistance is available on campus 24 hours a day.
