Support for Student Organizations

Student Government Association's Organization Management Committee is a committee made up of students who manage the new organization recognition process. The purpose of the Organization Management Committee is to provide Bentley students the opportunity to satisfy a demonstrated need for new organizations. This is accomplished through a student-driven process designed to produce organizations that are prepared, sustainable and able to contribute to student life at Bentley.

Programming

We offer programs throughout the year to support student organization success and student leader development. These include:

• Fall and Spring Activities Fairs, intended for any student interested in joining a student organization
• Org Success Workshops, which support executive board member skill development. Topics covered include team management, marketing, contracts & budgets, diversity & inclusion, and event planning
• Student Organization of the Month, Student Leader of the Month, and Faculty/Staff Advisor of the Month, which recognize standout organizations and individuals for their contributions each month
• The annual Bentley SPEak Awards, which celebrate student organization and student leader accomplishments

Student Organization Guidebook

Student Programs & Engagement’s Student Organization Guidebook provides a centralized policy resource for recognized undergraduate student organizations and their members. The policies and provisions contained in the Guidebook govern the conduct and operations of student organizations. Contact information and links for policies administered by other departments is provided throughout the document; students are encouraged to contact the relevant staff member or department if they have questions or would like more information. The Guidebook is reviewed annually by Student Programs & Engagement, in conjunction with the leadership of SGA, ABA, and AIA. Changes to this document may be made at any time; revisions will be communicated to student organizations in a timely manner. Feedback on current policies is always welcome and should be addressed to Riley Fickett, Assistant Director of Student Programs & Engagement.

Bentley SPEak Blog

Bentley SPEak is an online destination where students can learn about upcoming organization events, view event photos, and access organization-specific resources for officer training, marketing support and event planning, such as the Cooperative Programming Board.

Anti-Hazing Campaign

Bentley University does not tolerate hazing of any kind. If you believe you or someone you know has been a victim of hazing, you can report it to staff in Student Programs & Engagement, or by contacting a resident assistant, academic adviser, professor, staff member or University Police, or through the anonymous anti-hazing tip line.

Each student organization at Bentley is required to have at least one adviser who is a full-time faculty or staff member or a member of Bentley’s Division of Student Affairs. Advisers are selected by students in the organization and provide direct support to the organization throughout the year. Policies related to faculty/staff advisers can be found in the Student Organization Guidebook.

The Allocation & Internal Audit Committee (AIA) is a governing organization made up of students who manage the allocation of Bentley’s $1.4 million Student Activity Fee (SAF). Policies and procedures are developed to ensure proper expenditure of SAF funds and to ensure compliance with all University policies and applicable laws.

AIA members monitor student organizations' budget activity, offer financial training to organization treasurers, and are available to support student organizations purchasing needs throughout the year.
