Promoting Academic Learning Through Community Involvement

Welcome to the Bentley Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Center (BSLCE).  The BSLCE engages over 1,000 students each academic year in intensive, 20 hour plus, service opportunities at 60 community partner sites.  BSLCE works with over 100 faculty across disciplines, who offer embedded and 4th-Credit academic service-learning opportunities through their courses, and BSLCE oversees an innovative student leadership model to drive our programs forward.  Additionally, BSLCE offers a variety of co-curricular civic engagement initiatives to the campus and community, including an annual Fair Trade Fair, the BUIILD project, an Alternative Break Habitat trip, and strategic consultancy to local nonprofits.

Our Mission

The mission of the Bentley Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Center is to enhance student learning through academically-connected service and co-curricular programs, working with our local, national, and international nonprofit community partners to help address important public issues. Guided by the undergraduate curriculum, the Service-Learning program provides a service experience that complements student coursework, while developing impactful programs in partnership with the community. Guided by Bentley’s commitment to ethical leadership, the Civic Engagement program engages students in social change, social justice, and social entrepreneurship work toward creating sustainable solutions to local, national, and international issues.
