Seven students participated in the department's Pierce Butler Prize in Creative Writing reading on April 14th. The stories were nominated by faculty in the courses LIT 311 (Creative Writing: Fiction) and LIT 312 (Creative Writing: Drama/Screenwriting). Named for retired professor Pierce Butler, the award was jointly presented to: Nathan McCracken ("The Raft") and Steven Kauvaka ("Walden"). 

Other winners include: 

• 2nd place winner: Kereen Soares ("Fool's Gold")
• 3rd place winner: Jared Forrest ("Forecast")
• Runners up:
  • Emily Sweet ("Bella Vista AR")
  • Bella DeSouza ("When One Door Closes")
  • Julia Bartow ("Green Eyed Grief")

The winners received $150, second place $100 and third place $50.
