About Us
Founded in 2012, the Center for Integration of Science and Industry focuses on accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries for public benefit. Our vision is that the continuing exponential advances in science and technology can be more efficiently translated to create public value.
To do this, the Center brings together teams of researchers, post-doctoral fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and Executives in Residence with skills and experience spanning the basic and applied sciences, data analytics, management, financing, and policy to fully understand the dynamics of organizations involved in translational science. Our approach posits that the inefficiencies encountered in translating scientific discoveries for public benefit may be overcome through innovative business models and strategy that better integrate characteristics of the emerging technologies.
KEY ACTIVITES:
- Identify scientific and business determinants of successful drug development and synergies to advance translational science
- Characterize public sector (NIH) spending on basic and applied research leading to new drug approvals
- Characterize public and private sector contributions to pharmaceutical innovation as well as the social and private value created by pharmaceutical products
- Characterize the risk and return of public and private sector investments in pharmaceutical innovation
- Differentiate varied biopharmaceutical business models, sources of R&D capital, contributions to innovation, and balance of social and private value created
- Perform research that informs and impacts business practice and public policy
- Engage and mentor students and post-doctoral fellows in impactful educational experiences and productive research
- Bring together thought leaders from science, industry, and public policy and transdisciplinary perspectives to advance the translation of scientific advances for public value
Funding
Founded by a generous grant from the National Biomedical Research Foundation, the Center’s scholarship draws on the strength of Bentley University’s unique position promoting the fusion of business with the arts & sciences. We are also greatly appreciative of the support provided by the Institute for New Economic Thinking and West Health Policy Center, without which this important work would not be possible.
