Being "Open" About Cancer: Interview with Barbara Reul

While surviving cancer is a difficult endeavor, writing a book about the whole experience and publishing it with an open license is an additional struggle. When Barabra Reul, a music professor, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2020, she underwent numerous radiation and chemo treatments. Reul is fortunately cancer-free and has written two memoirs, Perfect Timing (2021) and Right On Time (2023), which chronicle her treatment and battle with cancer. Both memoirs are completely free to the public with zero restrictions. James, the Open Educational Resources librarian, spoke to Barbara to discuss her very forthright and transparent books as well as her decision to publish her openly licensed memoirs.
