Bentley University Archives

The Bentley University Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to information and materials that document the history and development of Bentley University, from its beginnings in 1917 up through the present day. Our collections include numerous documents, photographs, films, audio tapes, memorabilia and other types of materials that have been collected over time to provide a full picture of Bentley culture and history through the years.

Using the Archives: 

All are welcome to use the collections of the Bentley University Archives, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, outside researchers, and the general public. Due to privacy concerns and/or preservation issues, some records may be restricted to internal use only. Please email or call us at least a week in advance to request materials or to do research, as most of our collections are stored off-site.

General use policy

  • The Bentley University Archives are open for research by appointment only. If you would like to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions related to Bentley history or the archives in general, email the University Archivist at: archives@bentley.edu
  • Please contact us at least a week in advance to request materials or to do research, as most of our collections are stored off-site.
  • Archives materials do not circulate and may not be removed from the reading room.
  • Some materials in the archives have restricted access due to fragility or to privacy concerns.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the reading room.
  • Pens and markers are not permitted in the reading room. Pencils and notebooks are allowed.
  • Backpacks and purses must be left by the entrance to the reading room.

Citations for materials from the Bentley University Archives

Below is information on how we prefer you to cite materials from the Bentley University Archives. If you feel that another citation format would be better for your purposes, you are free to make changes but please ensure that all the location and repository information remains in your citation, as this is how others will find the material within our collections. 

 

Preferred Citation for Physical material from the Bentley University Archives: 

Format: Description, Date. Collection/Series/Box Number. Repository Name, Location. Date accessed. 

Example: Bentley, Harry C. Letter to Maurice Lindsay, Jan. 1st, 1950. RG 03 Series 02, Box #44. Bentley University Archives, Waltham, MA. 23 June 2015.  

 

Preferred Citation for Online material from the Bentley University Archives: 

Format: Description, Date. Unique Identifier. Repository Name, Location. Date accessed and Web Address.
