On Display: Embrace the Journey, learning to find meaning in every step.
November 2, 2024
There is a common saying, "it's not about the destination, it's the journey." Attributed to American poet and writer Ralph Waldo Emerson, it has taught people that life is not just about their goals or achievements, but there are lessons to be learned in every step we take. This display is a collection of items that proves that very ethos.
Included in the display are travelogues, memoirs, novels, and histories. They cover everything from a comedy writer's experience traveling the country visiting the locations of some of our country's most difficult times (Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell) to the story of the Sudanese civil war as experienced by one man living as a refugee in the US (What is the What by Dave Eggers). There are contemporary novels about the pain of loss leading to epic adventures (The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty) and classic literature we all know by heart but could probably revisit (On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad). After all, they are classics for a reason. There is even an illustrated guide to other "Literary Journeys".
You can browse the collection online, or stop by the library lobby, to find exactly the journey that speaks to you.
