On Display: Things That Go Bump in the Night!

“Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.”
-William Shakespeare, Macbeth

Halloween is a fantastic time for storytelling. Whether you are telling ghost stories with your friends around a campfire, reading a psychological thriller snuggled under a blanket on a dark and windy night, or watching a scary or horror movie with all the lights turned off and candles lit all around. Reading books about all things spooky is great because you are forced to use your own imagination to conjure up images of the story being told. The same can be said for trying to come up with your own terrifying and hair-raising tales from your own imagination. Movies contain their own elements of surprise and suspense by adding lighting, music, and sound effects to keep the viewer engaged in the story.

However, Halloween movies do not always have to be scary. It can be sweet and adorable—see my favorite It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; silly family fun—check out the cult classic Hocus Pocus or a parody—check out the always hilariously entertaining Young Frankenstein!

From ghosts and goblins, vampires, and witches to haunted houses and pumpkins galore, I find there is something for everyone during the Halloween season.

Celebrate spooky season by borrowing books and movies from the Halloween display in the lobby, available now through October 31. You can also browse the display online and login to place holds or pin items for later.
