Welcome Back! Fall '24 Printing, Study Rooms, Hours & More.
September 3, 2024
Welcome back, Falcons! We hope you had a great summer and are ready for a new academic year. We want to help you be prepared, so here are a few important tips and reminders.
We highly recommend that you don't wait to get connected to the Falcon Printing network and download the study room app so you'll be ready when you need them!
Study Rooms
How to Book a Study Room:
- Download the Direct Spaces app (available on both iOS and Android) to book a group study room from your mobile device.
- Make room reservations online via the University’s EMS website
- Book a room on-the-fly using the touch panels outside each study room
Using Group Study Rooms – Policy & Procedure Reminders
The Bentley Library provides 21 group study rooms to be used for collaborative coursework and studying. Study room policies:
- Students can make 1 reservation per day for up to 2 hours, up to 2 weeks in advance.
- Group study rooms can only be reserved for groups, meaning 2 or more people. An individual can use an empty room, but they cannot reserve a room. Groups will take priority and can ask an individual to leave a room.
- You must check-in to your reservation within 15 minutes of the start otherwise your reservation will be canceled. You can check in on the app, on the EMS website, or at the panel outside the room.
Computers, Printers, & Scanners
The library provides computers and printers (color and B&W) for you to use if you need one.
- Don’t forget to connect your laptop to the Falcon Printing network! Check your laptop now to see if it is configured to print to Falcon Print and Falcon Color Print so that you won’t run into printing issues when you’re in a rush.
- Information about installing the Bentley print drivers on your laptop is available on the Falcon Printing website. You will also find information about printing funds and costs on that site. If you need additional help, please contact the IT Help Desk.
- Scanners can be found in the print rooms on the lower and upper level of the library. You can scan a document or book chapter into pdf format and email it to yourself. Use of scanners is free.
Using Course Reserves
Does the syllabus say that a book or other item is on reserve or available at the library? Here’s what you need to know:
- Course Reserves are select books, book chapters, articles, DVDs, and other resources that your professors have put aside either on physical reserve in the library or electronic reserve in your course Brightspace site. Please note that although the library does not automatically have course textbooks, it is possible that your professor has placed a textbook on reserve for your class.
- Here’s how to find course reserves:
- Use the Library Search to search by course name, course code, or instructor to see what items your professor has put on reserve for your class and are available to check out.
- Online, electronic course reserves can be found in the “Resources” module of the Brightspace site for your class.
It’s always worth checking the library first before you purchase anything. Even if something hasn’t been put on reserve specifically for your class, we may have a copy in the stacks that you can borrow or have access to an electronic version via one of our many online databases.
Find Books, Articles, Films and More
The library’s website, library.bentley.edu, is your starting point for accessing resources and conducting research.
- Library Search - Use the Bentley Library Search box on the library’s homepage to discover books, ebooks, articles, streaming films, journals, and so much more. Log in to your library account before searching for the best results and ease of access to online resources.
- Databases - From article databases to specialized business resources (e.g., IBISWorld, Mintel, Mergent, Statista, Gartner), the library provides access to more than 170 databases to help you with your research and coursework. A full list of databases can be found on the Databases A-Z page. You can access these from both on and off campus.
Get Research Help
- Reference librarians are here to help you with your research! We can help you locate information inside and outside Bentley Library, select the best databases to use for your topic, develop a search strategy, construct searches, and cite sources. We offer drop-in help at the reference desk and via chat, email, phone, and text. Consultations (in-person and Zoom) are also available by appointment. Visit the Research Help page to view our contact information and reference desk hours.
- Research Guides are curated lists of resources created by Bentley University Librarians to help you identify the best sources for your research. Research guides are developed for specific classes, subject areas, and special topics. Visit the Research Guides homepage to view the full list.
