Getting started...

Now that you have been accepted and committed to the MBA program, let's make sure that you have everything you need set up, so you are ready to start in September!

Bentley Email & Credentials

Within 3 business days, Monday-Friday, after you submit your deposit and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy in your Bentley Connect Portal, you will receive an email from Bentley University's Help Desk with instructions for setting up your Bentley account. Your short name, once established, will provide you the full range of network resources you will need to use. This process may take up to 3 business days, Monday-Friday and does not happen immediately. If you need assistance with setting up your Bentley credentials, reach out to Bentley University Help Desk

All official communication to students will be sent to your Bentley email account. Students should check their account frequently for important updates, information and specific instructions. A Bentley email account may be forwarded to a personal or work email address. Also, your Bentley credentials (aka short name) is how you will log into various websites and services that you need while completing your degree (Workday, BrightSpace, Bentley Library, etc).

Workday Student Onboarding Tasks

You'll use Workday Student to view your schedule and grades, access schedule planner, register for classes, add, drop, or swap classes, view your financial aid, pay your bill or request a refund, and access Degree Works and Blackboard. However, before all that, you'll want to complete your Workday Student Onboarding Tasks. These tasks will ask you for your emergency contact information, basic contact information, show you how to review your degree requirements, and make sure you are aware of the policies/procedures and requirements regarding student financial services.

You will be emailed when it is time to complete the Workday Onboarding, and you'll see a task in Workday. The link below will provide an overview of the onboarding tasks.

Step-by-Step Guide

Familiarize Yourself With Online Learning

Bentley University has had online learning as a part of graduate education for multiple years; nevertheless, it may be very new for many of our graduate students. Although all of the BIHL MBA curriculum will be taught as online synchronous courses, our Graduate Remote Learning Tips website provides an overview of online learning at Bentley, information on different platforms used, and tips to help you succeed.

Technology at Bentley

IT Resources for Working and Teaching Remotely

Bentley strongly suggests the following computer configurations to ensure that you can take full advantage of Bentley’s computing environment.

Falcons Online

According Bentley's CIS Sandbox, a 5GHz wireless connection will be faster than other connections (2.5GHz) but will not give you as much distance from the router. You must select what is best for your particular situation.

The best connection at home is the Ethernet connection. Every home router (except Apple home routers) has Ethernet ports on the back of the router. If your router at home has an open Ethernet port, connect your laptop to the router using an Ethernet cable to get the most reliable and fastest connection possible.

Zoom Class

If you have not used Zoom before, you will find everything you need on our Getting started with Zoom page!

You can also download an official Bentley University Zoom Background for extra pizzazz.

All students are provided with a student license for Office 365. This includes 1TB of secure cloud storage in Microsoft’s Office 365 OneDrive. Microsoft Office 365's suite of office applications can be accessed from on-campus and from anywhere you have an internet connection.

Brightspace is a web-based Learning Management System.

Essentially, it is a website that class participants can access any time from any computer with an Internet connection.

Brightspace is used to find:

  • Uploaded course-related materials, including syllabi, profiles, presentations, audio and video files.
  • Receive updates from instructors about course information.
  • Access to online collaborative tools such as discussion boards, blogs, and wikis.
  • Submit assignments online, take tests and surveys electronically, and locate grades and anti-plagiarism tools.

For more information on Brightspace, watch the tutorials here.

Additional Resources

As a Bentley University graduate student, here are a few opportunities, resources and services with which you should make yourself acquainted.

Student Handbook

Bentley is a community of students, faculty and staff who are committed to learning. To create the best environment for learning to occur, we as a community embrace the BENTLEY CORE VALUES to guide our conduct. It outlines the resources and opportunities provided to all students as well as the policies and procedures students are expected to follow. All students are encouraged to use this handbook as a resource during your time at Bentley. The Student Handbook is for all students, so there may be some components not relevant to your graduate student experience (e.g. living on campus); however, you should be familiar with the policies that do directly connect.

Graduate Academic Catalogue

Students enrolled in the university are responsible for familiarizing themselves with and understanding the implications of all institutional policies, procedures and requirements affecting progress toward their academic goals. These include, but are not limited to, degree and major course requirements, and the university’s grading and course repeat policies. Students who fail to comply with these policies, procedures and requirements do so at their own risk. You can learn about your rights and responsibilities by reviewing the graduate catalogue.

Falcon Card

If you plan to come to campus, you may need to have a Bentley ID to utilize certain services and/or to access specific spaces. Also, having a valid student ID can give you discounts at various retailers both in person and online.

New students can upload their own Bentley ID photo for their Falcon Card. Please go to MyPhoto and login by using your Bentley email and network password. Students can visit the Campus Police Card Office as early as three weeks before the start of classes to obtain their student ID.

Transportation To Campus

If you will be regularly driving to campus for elective classes, to use the library or to attend on campus events, you will need to obtain a parking sticker for your vehicle. Depending on location, some graduate students also use other transportation options to get to campus such as taxis, public transportation, and car-share programs.

Bentley also provides a intra-campus shuttle to help you get around campus and two shuttles that links Bentley to the local community, where you can connect to the MBTA and Fitchburg Line commuter rail, Moody Street in Waltham and to Harvard Square. Please check the Bentley University Shuttle Website for shuttle routes and schedules.

Getting To Campus
