Where to Stay
If you have a choice of where to stay, consider the energy efficiency initiatives the hotel is committed to. Many have made great strides in reducing their carbon footprints, and if possible, those would be good places to spend the night.

At the Hotel
Be mindful of in-hotel initiatives.
Most consider a towel on the floor or in the bathtub as one that needs washing. Hang them back up, or re-rack them when not needed.
Some hotels give vouchers for hotel restaurants if you skip housekeeping for a day. Usually this is signaled by a front door knob hanger, or by calling the front desk. Even if not available, the same can be accomplished by hanging a Do Not Disturb sign on the door for the duration of your stay.
Lastly, use this checklist before leaving your room for the day:
- Secure your valuables.
- Ensure the water faucets are off.
- Turn off electronics, such as lights and TVs.
