SGA Accomplishments

Art Studio

After hearing that there was a lack of space on campus to create and share all forms of art, Bentley SGA, and more specifically, the Student Affairs Committee started looking into how to solve this issue. After discussions in Senate and a school-wide survey, a formal bill was written and presented to the university’s President, Dean of Student Affairs, and Chief of Staff. With support from the administration, Bentley is actively funding and planning the creation of this space to be completed within the coming years. The next steps include meeting with the VP of Strategy and Innovation to make this a priority within the university’s upcoming strategic plan.

Restructuring

The Executive Board of SGA and Restructuring Committee have come together throughout the 2022-23 school year to improve the operation and underlying structure of SGA. Together with the support of the Senate, they have rewritten the Constitution and By-laws to better serve and represent the student body. Some common themes that have been addressed in this are accountability, accessibility, voice, and unity. The changes that have been made will officially be implemented in the 2023-24 academic year.

Restructured/updated Organization Recognition Process

This committee has recently optimized our New Student Organization recognition process by streamlining the number of required meetings, updating outdated documents, and revisiting the requirements of a new organization. By reducing the number of required meetings and updating our documentation, we have enabled student organizations to receive recognition faster and with less hassle, while still ensuring that the necessary information is shared and understood. These optimizations reflect our commitment to continuously improving our processes to better serve the needs of our students and their organizations.

Traveled to Bryant

Our Executive Board Members traveled to Bryant University to meet with representatives from other regional student government associations. Here they were able to connect and network with other students and learn about leadership and service from guest speakers. Information collected here was brought into Senate and the restructuring conversations helped guide our discussions, enabling us to learn from the initiatives started by other groups and to guide us toward changes that we sought to mirror.
