Bentley Arena

Where business, sustainability and sports intersect

The Bentley Arena

Bentley’s NCAA Division I hockey team plays at The Bentley Arena, and it’s a common location for career fairs, high-profile speakers, alumni events and concerts.

Off the ice, students use the arena as a “living lab,” analyzing the building’s energy data, creating marketing projects and sales plans for season tickets, and through other academic projects.

The Bentley Arena is the first standalone ice arena in the country to receive LEED Platinum certification, and the first LEED-certified building on the University’s century-old campus. As a prime example of sustainable design and energy efficiency, the arena will be a place for generations of Falcons to gather, play, cheer and learn.

Catch a Hockey Game

The Falcons play in the Atlantic Hockey conference against rivals such as Army West Point, the Air Force Academy and Holy Cross. High profile opponents from other conferences including Hockey East and ECAC also visit each season. The team is coached by Bentley alum Ryan Soderquist ’00, who is also the program’s all-time leading scorer. Bentley hockey student-athletes are regularly recognized for their accomplishments both on and off the ice.

Building Features

The 76,000 square foot facility was designed by Architectural Resources Cambridge and built by Suffolk Construction. Constructed was completed in 2018.

  • 1,400 solar panels on the roof, which provide 40% of the building’s annual electricity needs
  • High-efficiency lighting and water-saving bathroom fixtures

  • A glass-walled function room that offers upscale space for a range of community and campus events

  • State-of-the-art locker rooms for home and visiting hockey teams, equipment rooms, weight rooms and a sports medicine center

  • A grand staircase to the upper lobby where a second-floor concourse enables people to gather

  • A student-run media control room that includes 10 high-definition cameras to capture all the live action and curate content for the Jumbotron.

  • An outdoor plaza built with permeable pavers to reduce stormwater runoff and encourage infiltration into the adjacent wetlands

  • Preferred parking spots for electric and fuel-efficient/low-emission vehicles

During the construction process, at least 20% of the materials contained recycled content and came from local sources; and more than half of the wood used was Forest Steward Council certified.
