Senior Aaron Sacks Receives 2011 SCORE/SBA Scholarship Award in Entrepreneurship

Bentley senior Aaron Sacks is the recipient of the 2011 SCORE/SBA Scholarship Award in Entrepreneurship. A Marketing major, Sacks won the competition for the $1,000 scholarship on the basis of his academic performance and entrepreneurial perspective. The competition is sponsored by the Bentley University Management Department under the leadership of management faculty members Jeffrey Shuman, Hans Thamhain, and Fred Tuffile. It is funded by the Herbert Low Scholarship and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) a subdivision of the Small Business Administration (SBA). The award was announced at the SCORE Award Luncheon at Bentley on September 23. 

Outstanding Scholarly Contribution Award Winners Announced

Bentley Provost Mike Page announced the winners of the 2011 Outstanding Scholarly Contribution Award at the recent General Faculty meeting. Otgo Erhemjamt; Jennifer Gillan; Kartik Raman; and Kristin Sorensen were singled out for their impressive research accomplishments.

Bentley Police Sergeant Robert Lynn Inducted into Kenpo International Hall of Fame

Bentley Police Sergeant Robert Lynn was recently inducted into the Kenpo International Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, with more than 900 attendees from around the world. Kenpo Karate is a style of martial art, of which Lynn is an 8th Degree Black Belt, professor title.

“It was an extremely humbling experience to be in the same Hall of Fame with legends such as William Chow, James Mitose, Edmund Kealoha Parker, Elvis Presley, John Chow-Hoon, Nancy Cerio and others,” Lynn recalls. “My son Bobby was present during my induction, which meant the world to me.”

The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc., awarded scholarships to two Bentley students, presented at the MSCPA’s Annual Meeting and Recognition Reception. Alecia Coleman (Class of 2012) received the MSCPA Women in Accounting Scholarship; and graduate student Frederick Jao received the McGladrey Scholarship

Perry Lowe Judges Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011

For the third consecutive year, Senior Lecturer in Marketing Perry Lowe was appointed to judge the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011. Finalist entries were judged at the 2011 Worldwide Finals in New York City during July. The finals included registrants from 73 countries and regions.

Following the theme “Imagine a World Where Technology Helps Solve the Toughest Problems,” students from around the world were charged to channel their creative energy, their technical skills and their personal passion to take part in an urgent mission.

Emily Williams Receives $1,000 Scholarship from Dunkin’ Donuts

Incoming freshman Emily Williams received a $1,000 scholarship from Dunkin’ Donuts. The award was presented by Dunkin’ Donuts Field Marketing Manager Todd Wallace at a ceremony held at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The students were joined for the awards ceremony by Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

Grant Thornton and Boston Business Journal Award $5,000 Accounting Scholarship to Senior April Gammal

Senior April Gammal received a $5,000 Accounting Scholarship Award from Grant Thornton LLP and the Boston Business Journal, presented at the CFO of the Year luncheon. Gammal is an Accountancy major with a Liberal Studies major in Health and Industry. Recognized for academic excellence, she was chosen from among nearly 70 nominees from local colleges.

Katherine Blake Ordained as Interfaith Chaplain, June 5

June 22, 2011
Katherine Blake, executive director of marketing communication and director of web services, was ordained by the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine as an interfaith chaplain on June 5. Coursework included 500 class hours, 150 volunteer hours, 150 internship hours and monthly book reviews.

Pierre Berthon, Clifford F. Youse Chair of Marketing and Strategy, is co-editor of the May-June 2011 issue of Business Horizons. The special issue (Volume 54, Issue 3) focuses on social media, including an introduction that provides a brief overview of Web 2.0, social media and creative consumers and explores the challenges and opportunities presented to managers generally, and to marketers in particular.
