Bentley University Takes First Place at the National College Fed Challenge

Bentley University won the national title at the seventh annual College Fed Challenge held at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. on November 30, 2010. Bentley placed first among teams from Lafayette College, Northwestern University, Rutgers University at Newark, and Virginia Commonwealth University. The finals were held in the Boardroom at the Board of Governors as the capstone to district competitions.

Bentley University Police Department Holds 9th Annual Holiday Toy Drive Through December 20

The Bentley Police Department has joined forces with the Waltham Police Department for the 9th annual holiday toy drive for local area families in need. The program runs through December 20.

Donations of new, unwrapped, non-violent gifts for a boy or girl between the ages of one and 16 may be dropped off at the Bentley University Police Station lobby. Gift cards and cash donations will be accepted and converted to gift cards for distribution to the families.

Bentley University Presents Tufts Health Plan Speaker Series, December 1

The Women's Leadership Institute at Bentley University, with the support of Tufts Health Plan, presents the second annual Tufts Health Plan speaker series. The program features prominent female business leaders addressing relevant issues that affect women and business today.  Christina Lampe- Önnerud, founder and CEO of Boston-Power, will be the keynote speaker on Wednesday, December 1 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00p.m. in the Executive Dining Room in the La Cava Center at Bentley University.  A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Edward Zlotkowski, Professor of English at Bentley University, Receives Distinguished Contribution Award at the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) Conference, October 2010

Bentley University Professor of English Edward Zlotkowski received the Distinguished Contribution Award at the International Association for Research on Service-learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) Conference October 28 to 30 in Indianapolis. The award recognizes the significant role that Zlotkowski has played during the past two decades to advance service-learning and civic engagement, both in the United States and abroad.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass. Honor Bentley University President Gloria Cordes Larson with Leading Women Award

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts honored Bentley University President Gloria Cordes Larson as one of six remarkable role models at the 19th Annual Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass. Leading Women Awards Breakfast held at the Seaport Hotel in Boston on November 9, 2010.  The honorees were chosen because they exemplify the Girl Scout mission to build women of courage, confidence and character and their desire to make the world a better place.

Bentley University Receives US$50,000 Grant from KPMG to Explore a Fraud Knowledge Management Tool for Auditors

Bentley University received a US$50,000 grant from KPMG, the global network of professional services firms, to explore the ability of a fraud knowledge management tool to enhance the work of public company auditors. Principal investigators include Bentley Professor of Accountancy Jay Thibodeau, Bentley PhD student Denise Hanes, and James Bierstaker of Villanova University.

Bentley Executive Education Hosts Professionals from South Africa’s Stellenbosch University Executive Program for Week-Long Study Trip on Corporate Social Responsibility

Bentley Executive Education hosted a group of 16 managers and executives from Stellenbosch University in South Africa for a one-week executive education study trip focusing on socially responsible business management practice in September 2010. The program included lectures by professors Tony Buono, Joel Deichmann, Raj Sisodia and Chip Wiggins, with visits to three local companies with a history of socially conscious management practice -- Jordan's Furniture, Trillium Investments, and National Grid.

Bentley University Professor Pierre Berthon Wins Best Paper from Business Horizons

Bentley University Professor Pierre Berthon won a 2010 Best Paper Award from Business Horizons for the paper entitled "Event Sponsorship and Ambush Marketing: Lessons from the Beijing Olympics,"  published in the May-June 2010 issue. The article outlines the "Li Ning Affair" - how major Olympic sponsor Adidas was ambushed by a lesser-known Chinese competitor, Li Ning, whose namesake founder lit the Olympic flame at the 2008 Beijing Olympiad.

Bentley University Presents Andrew Liveris, CEO of The Dow Chemical Company, Discussing “Ethics as a Business Strategy”

Andrew Liveris, the President, CEO, and Chairman of The Dow Chemical Company will be the keynote speaker at the 15th annual Raytheon Lecture in Business Ethics at Bentley University on November 4, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. in Wilder Pavilion, Adamian Academic Center. Liveris will speak about the central place of ethics in Dow's long-term business strategy.

Medicus International New York and Bentley University to Collaborate on Training Healthcare Providers in Interpersonal Communication Skills

Medicus International New York and Bentley University will collaborate on the development of a curriculum to train healthcare providers in interpersonal communication skills. Medicus International New York will be working with Helen Meldrum, EdD, Associate Professor of Psychology at Bentley University, to create educational programs to enhance interpersonal communication that can be delivered as in-service presentations in a wide variety of healthcare settings across the country.
